Amema began in 2015 as an effort by students at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design to advance generative computation as a material tool for artists. Amema develops and curates a corpus of unique objects, which have evolved over time through digital and physical collage and remixing. These objects originated in a variety of environments, ranging from old video games, levels to real world dumps, garage sales, and thrift stores. The goal of Amema is to show these objects love by using them as seeds to grow new treasures.
